The Netherlands: Leiden University Fund (LUF) Scholarship 2007-2008

Each year the organisation of alumni, Leiden University Fund (LUF) awards LUF scholarships to outstanding foreign students pursuing a Masters Degree at Leiden University (See the list of eligible Masters programmes on www.postgraduate.leidenuniv.nl).

For 2007-2008, two scholarships are available for MA students in the Faculties of Theology, Archeology, and Philosophy together, and two scholarships each for the larger Faculties (Social and Behavioural Sciences, Arts, Law, Medicine, and Mathematics and Natural Sciences).

The LUF scholarship is open to talented students from all countries of the world except the Netherlands.

The scholarship consists of € 10.800,- for one academic year.

Applications can be made by sending the completed form (which is available at: http://www.luf.nl/default.asp?paginaid=306) to the Leiden University Fund.

Deadline: 1 April 2007.

Requirements for eligibility:

The applicant has been admitted to an English language Masters programme of Leiden University on the basis of prior education outside the Netherlands.
The applicant must have obtained excellent results in his/her previous studies and be for instance in the top 10% of students in his/her programme.
The applicant’s studies in the Netherlands must constitute a deepening and broadening of his/her previous studies in the home country.

Beasiswa S1 S2: The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Scholarship Awards

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) was established in 1978 by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus as a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization dedicated to developing the next generation of Latino leaders. CHCI’s educational services are designed to provide Latino students with the tools and resources they need to succeed in attaining a higher education. Its leadership development programs seek to help participants search for and understand, their identity as professionals, Latinos, and leaders. By bringing together individuals who share a commitment to serve their communities, CHCI endeavors to make its vision of an educated and civic-minded Latino community a reality.

Scholarship Awards
This premier scholarship opportunity is afforded to Latino students who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who plan to continue contributing in the future. There is no GPA or major requirement. Students with excellent leadership potential are encouraged to apply.

Recipients will receive a one-time scholarship of:

$5,000 to attend a graduate-level academic institution; or
$2,500 to attend a four-year academic institution; or
$1,000 to attend a community college or AA/AS granting institution.
Undergraduate recipients will also receive a DELL Notebook Computer and Microsoft Package.
CHCI will be responsible for managing the disbursement of the scholarship monies to the recipients. In a two-fold effort to monitor the progress of scholarship recipients and promote college retention, total scholarship monies will be equally divided and distributed on a yearly basis as long as recipients maintain good academic standing (i.e. if you receive the scholarship as an entering freshman, your $2,500 award will be distributed in 4 equal installments of $625 a year). Scholarship awards are designed to cover tuition, room and board, textbooks, and other educational expenses associated with college enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

Consistent active participation in public and/or community service activities
Demonstrated financial need
Good writing skills
Full-time enrollment in an accredited community college, four-year university, or graduate/professional program during the period for which scholarship is requested
U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency

Multidisciplinary Summer REU in Computation and Control of Biological and Biologically Inspired Systems

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Texas Tech University will host a multidisciplinary undergraduate research program in computation and control of biological and biologically inspired systems. This program will be sponsored by the National Science Foundation REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) and the Department of Defense ASSURE (Awards to Stimulate and Support Undergraduate Research Education). This 8-week summer research experience is scheduled to be held between June 04, 2007 to July 27, 2007 and it will support eight-ten undergraduate students and a K-12 teacher. The proposed REU program will consist of interesting and challenging projects arising from computational modeling, systems & control, geometric modeling, and applications of complex analytic methods.

Applicants must be undergraduate students who will be completing their junior or senior year by June 2007. Every selected student participant will be provided a stipend of $2,400, free on-campus housing and meals, and a travel allowance up to $500. Students with a strong background in advanced calculus, linear algebra and differential equations are eligible to apply. Women and underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Please note that under NSF rules, only U.S. Citizens and permanent residents are eligible to receive stipends and support for housing and travel costs. In commemoration of its 80th anniversary in 1998, Matsushita Electric decided to launch Panasonic Scholarship Program for privately-financed students from Asian countries to pursue mater’s course in Japan.

We hope this scholarship will provide them with a good oppurtunity to do research at graduate schools and enable them to contribute to the development of their countries and to promote friendship between Asian countries and Japan in the 21st Century.

ELIGIBILITY
Privately-financed students from Asian countries who are university graduates under 30 years of age and wish to enter master’s courses of natural science and engineering area except Medical Science, Pharmacology and Dentistry at graduate schools in Japan.

CONTENTS OF PANASONIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Panasonic Scholarship will be provided for max. three years including max. one year of Japanese language training and study as research student and max. two years for master’s program.

YEAR ONE : Japanese language training and study as research student
1. Monthly Scholarship : ¥ 150.000 per month
2. Arrival Allowance : max. ¥ 200.000 will be paid before and/ or after arrival in Japan
3. Tuition Fee Assistance : ¥ 250.000 will be paid in each semester The actual amount will be paid in case the tuition fee is less than ¥ 500.000/ year.

YEAR TWO & THREE : Master’s course at graduate school
1. Monthly Scholarship : ¥ 180.000 per month
2. Matriculation Fee Assistance : ¥ 200.000 will be paid in the first year of master’s course
3. Tuition Fee Assistance : ¥ 250.000 will be paid in each semester The actual amount of matriculation and tuition fee will be be paid to the students whose fees are less than the above amount.

Postdoctoral Position in Computational Geoseismics at INRIA Sophia Antipolis

An opening for a post-doctoral fellow is anticipated at INRIA Sophia Antipolis. The focus of this position will be on the numerical simulation of seismic wave propagation by a discontinuous Galerkin method.

Applicants shoulds have (or hope to have soon) a PhD in applied mathematics or scientific computing and have experience with the study and the numerical resolution of partial differential equations using mesh based methods. A good programming experience (Fortran) is required, as is the ability to manipulate computer codes in a Linux/Unix environment.
