Priority Development Areas and Fields of Study
Scholarships are generally available for full-time post-graduate study, from certificate level to PhD at Australian universities. Priority is given to fields of study that assist development goals. From time to time the Australian government and Indonesia review these criteria and adjust the emphasis of the program.

The broad areas of agreed priority in 2006/2007 are Economic Management, Democratic Institutions and Practice, Basic Social Services and Security and Stability. Areas of agreed priority will be updated whenever more information becomes available. Note : Priority development areas (or sectors) are not fields of study. The fields of study are listed beneath the priority development areas.

--------------------------------------
Keeping in mind these priorities, Australia and Indonesia remain responsive to development needs. For example in 1999 in response to Indonesia's economic crisis, 60 scholarships were set aside for disciplines relating to Indonesia's economic reform program such as finance, accounting, economics, law and business.

If you are thinking about studying for a particular profession, you should know that the ADS does not include practical training periods required for professional registration. Students are expected to complete practical training in their home country.

The disciplines listed in the various fields of study are indicative, but not exclusive. Candidates must apply to study courses which fall within AusAID's priority academic areas.
